Ronald Mevs
Ronald Mevs was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti in 1945. In his paintings, and experiments with wood, metal and stone, he cultivates intimate relations with the religion, popular and traditional roots of his culture. His work is filled with graphic symbols.

“On Island Logic,” an exhibit of his work, will be held from September 16 to October 12, 2006. Mevs describes the evolution of Haitian culture as “syncretism” -- an amalgam of European, African and native Indian influences. “On Island Logic” is an expression of those traditions that crossed the seas from the continents, and blended in Haiti to make up the country’s culture today.
