Carlos Comesaņas

A descendent of Spanish immigrants to Cuba at the turn of the last century, Carlos Comesañas was born in Havana in 1952.  Though formally trained in architecture, he found art his true calling, and in 1971 was admitted to the prestigious Academy San Alejandro, an art school founded by the Spanish government in 1818.  Under the academy’s classic tutelage, his work was purely academic.  After leaving school he embarked on a life-long journey of exploration in paintings, sculpture and writing.  His work varies from the abstract to form-filled realism., and is expressive of the new and growing Cuban cultural experience.
